The Postgraduate Program of the University of Mataram held an orientation and matriculation event for new students for the even semester of the 2024/2025 Academic Year on February 10, 2025. This event aimed to provide comprehensive academic insights and introduce students to the postgraduate learning system. One of the key sessions in this matriculation program featured a presentation by the Head of UPA Bahasa, University of Mataram, Ms. Boniesta, who provided an overview of graduation requirements and relevant English language courses, such as the Postgraduate TOEFL course and a specialized program called Reading for Specific Purposes (RSP), designed to enhance postgraduate students’ English proficiency.
During her session, Ms. Boniesta began by explaining the minimum TOEFL score required for graduation, emphasizing that English proficiency is a crucial factor in achieving the required score. She highlighted the importance of English skills in supporting students’ academic success, research, and international academic communication. To assist students in meeting these requirements, she introduced the TOEFL course as a valuable resource for improving their English proficiency and ensuring they meet the university’s graduation standards.
Additionally, Ms. Boniesta introduced the Reading for Specific Purposes (RSP) program, which aims to help students navigate and comprehend scientific literature relevant to their fields of study. This program plays a vital role in enabling students to access essential academic sources for their research and scholarly writing, ultimately contributing to their success in postgraduate studies.
The role of UPA Bahasa in enhancing postgraduate students’ English proficiency and academic literacy is highly significant.
