Resource Centre & Self-Access Centre
Independent Access for Program Participants to Learning Resources and Technology
About Program
1. Resource Centre
The Resource Centre (RC) is located in one of the rooms in the Staff Room. It contains a collection of references and cassettes for teaching English as well as resources for teaching Indonesian to non-native speakers. Currently, the total number of book titles in the RC is around 1,000 (approximately 2,000 copies), and this number is expected to grow in line with the development of the UNRAM Language Centre. Most of these collections were donated by the Local Project Implementation Unit – Indonesian-Australian Eastern Universities Project (LPIU-IAEUP) and the Development Project of Eleven Universities (PPSLPT).
The collection is categorized as follows: Reading (RE), General English Course (CB), English for Occupational Purposes (EOP), English for Science and Technology (EST), International Tests/IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC (IT), Grammar (GR), Listening (LS), Vocabulary (VO), Testing (TES), Dictation and Pronunciation (DP), Activities (Games & Songs) (AC), Cambridge First Certificate (CA), Journal (JR), Speaking (SP), Writing (WR), English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Teacher Training (TT), Dictionary (DC), Novel (NOV), and Video (VR/VG), Indonesian Language (INDO).
The RC currently holds around 500 cassette titles. The materials in the RC include teaching resources, vocabulary, and grammar books (VO and GR) used for courses at the UNRAM Language Centre and are not lent to SAC members/students, except for Teacher Training (TT) and Journal (JL). Information on the collection of books, cassettes, and videos is archived in a “Clear Holder.” Some books from this collection are selected for use as teaching materials for English (and Indonesian) courses, specified by level. (For recommended materials by level, see the Appendix for the Learning Plan). Books recommended for individual courses are not lent to faculty or SAC members.
2. Self Access Language Learning
The Self-Access Centre (SAC) is an independent language learning hub. It aims to help English language learners at UNRAM, as well as the general public, enhance their English skills through self-access language learning (SALL), where students can determine their own learning paths by selecting materials (worksheets, books, cassettes, videos, games, etc.) based on their interests and needs, as well as their own time and ability. The SAC is expected to enable students to learn English independently and effectively according to their personal needs and interests.
A. Facilities
SAC provides the following facilities: worksheets and textbooks, complete with answer keys, displayed on self-access shelves. These materials are organized by level—from basic to intermediate—marked with colored folders (pink for basic, yellow for pre-intermediate, and light green for intermediate) and by language aspects and skills (listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation). Additional resources include songs (orange folder), Test Preparation (TOEFL and IELTS) (blue folder), English for Specific Purposes (ESP) series (red folder), and Aussie English (light blue folder). Textbooks, linguistic references (TT), journal articles, videos (language lessons and entertainment films), novels, games, study abroad information, and computers are also available. Other supportive services include discussion groups, workshops, community service, and study abroad consultations.
Two video players, thirteen cassette players, and an air-conditioned room support these facilities. Since May 2000, SAC has added another room to accommodate the large number of interested students. This new room is used for audiovisual space, a speaking corner, magazine shelves, and study abroad information.

Except for novels, which can be borrowed for a week, the maximum borrowing period for other items is three days, with a limit of one book at a time. Late return fines are IDR 500,000 per day, and borrowing is not permitted until the fine is settled. If a book is lost, the borrower must replace it with the same title or pay the book’s current price.
English teachers in the English Studies Program are permitted to borrow two books for a period of one month. Coordination of these book loans is the responsibility of the SAC Coordinator.
