Mataram, University of Mataram – The Language Support Unit (UPA. Bahasa) of the University of Mataram (Unram), in collaboration with IALF Bali, conducted the C-CELT program: Teaching IELTS Preparation over five days, from February 8-12, 2024, at UPA. Bahasa Unram, with the participation of 14 teaching staff members of UPA. Bahasa Unram.
This program represents UPA. Bahasa Unram’s commitment to providing high-quality, standardized language courses and continuously improving various aspects, including the development of human resources and teaching quality. The program was led by Mr. David Bradbury, an expert in the field who holds a TESOL Diploma and oversees the Teacher Training Program at IALF.
The Program Coordinator, Kurniawan Apgrianto, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained that C-CELT stands for Certificate in Communicative English Language Teaching, an internationally recognized certification designed to equip teachers with specific skills and knowledge related to English teaching methods, techniques, and strategies.
“Our hope is that this program will help enhance the teaching capabilities of the UPA. Bahasa Unram staff in preparing for IELTS tests. During the C-CELT program, participants will receive training in teaching listening, reading, writing (task 1 and task 2), and speaking. The aim is for participants to internalize a significant amount of knowledge in a short period of time,” explained Kurniawan.
During the training, the Teaching Practice Workshop sessions provided participants with the opportunity to actively apply the methodologies and techniques they learned. They were encouraged to share their ideas and experiences, creating a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
The C-CELT: Teaching IELTS Preparation training will also serve as a quality assurance support for the new IELTS Preparation course program, which is open to the general public. Previously, UPA. Bahasa Unram had implemented an IELTS Preparation course called EPICURE, designed to prepare Unram lecturers to achieve satisfactory IELTS scores as a requirement for applying for scholarships or further education.
