Mataram, Universitas Mataram — On Saturday, March 23, 2024, UPA Bahasa UNRAM successfully conducted its inaugural IELTS Official Test. The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an internationally recognized standard test that measures individual English language proficiency. This test is utilized for various purposes, including academic admission, immigration, and job applications in English-speaking countries. Many universities worldwide require international applicants to take the IELTS as part of their admission criteria. The test results assist universities in assessing the English language skills of prospective students. Additionally, IELTS is often a prerequisite for various scholarship applications, including LPDP, Fulbright, AAS, and Chevening.
By organizing the IELTS Official Test, UPA Bahasa UNRAM demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the quality of English language education. This initiative involved collaboration with international institutions, reflecting UPA Bahasa UNRAM’s efforts to expand its network of partnerships and create opportunities for knowledge and experience exchange. Another benefit of hosting this test is the improvement of staff competencies in managing international tests, which will ultimately enhance the quality of services provided to users of UPA Bahasa UNRAM.
The first IELTS Official Test at UPA Bahasa UNRAM was attended by members of the academic community (lecturers) from the University of Mataram as well as the general public. UPA Bahasa UNRAM offered two types of IELTS Official Tests: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. The IELTS Academic test measures an individual’s readiness to commence studies that utilize English as the medium of communication, incorporating relevant vocabulary in an academic setting. In contrast, the IELTS General Training test assesses everyday English language skills needed in social situations and the workplace. Typically, this type of IELTS is utilized by individuals intending to immigrate to English-speaking countries.
