The Language Academic Unit (UPA Bahasa) at the University of Mataram offers basic Mandarin courses aimed at providing access and supporting the development of Mandarin language skills as a second language for students and the general public. This service targets students and the broader community who wish to start or improve their Mandarin language abilities for personal or professional purposes.
This program is designed for beginners, introducing pinyin characters, hanzi, numbers, and greetings. The learning materials include “Mandarin for Daily Life,” understanding and using Mandarin in everyday life, and expressing emotions. The course covers the introduction of pinyin characters and writing hanzi, enabling students to construct sentences using computers and other communication devices like mobile phones. Students are also expected to understand “basic phonetics and tones,” as well as develop their speaking, writing, and reading skills in everyday activities.
The curriculum structure for the Mandarin language is developed based on the needs of the course participants, taking into consideration their level of proficiency. The teaching model employed in this program emphasizes active learning, focusing on drills for four core skills: reading, speaking, writing, and listening.
Administrative registration for the Mandarin language class is handled by the UPA Bahasa administration, and registration is conducted in three periods each year. It can be completed online through the website pubah.unram.ac.id, following the guidelines and procedures outlined for UPA Bahasa activities.
