Mataram, November 25, 2024 – In an effort to improve students’ English proficiency, the Language Service Unit (UPA Bahasa) of the University of Mataram (UNRAM) has initiated an IELTS Preparation program targeted at students of POLTEKKES Mataram. The participants of this program are students from the international class of the Nursing Department, Bachelor of Applied Nursing program at POLTEKKES Mataram. The program aims to equip participants with advanced English skills for both academic and professional purposes.
This IELTS Preparation Class reflects a tangible collaboration between UPA Bahasa UNRAM and POLTEKKES Mataram. The partnership seeks to enhance human resource quality, particularly in English proficiency—a crucial skill in the global education and professional landscape. Through this program, POLTEKKES Mataram students are expected to prepare effectively for the IELTS exam while boosting their competitiveness in the international arena.
Overview of the IELTS Preparation Class
Before commencing the training, participants took the University of Mataram English Proficiency Test (UMEPT) as a prior assessment to gauge their initial English proficiency levels. The results served as a reference for instructors to tailor the training materials and teaching methods. At the end of the program, participants will undergo an IELTS Prediction Test, a simulation designed to estimate their potential scores in the official IELTS test. This predictive test provides insights into their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
The program covers both Academic Training and General Training modules, designed to prepare students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. Spanning 45 sessions, the classes are led by skilled instructors and focus on enhancing students’ abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
Facilities and Learning Access
Participants benefit from in-person training sessions and access to a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) via mooc.unram.ac.id, enabling them to continue independent learning beyond class hours. POLTEKKES Mataram also receives regular progress reports to monitor participants’ development throughout the program. Upon completion, participants are awarded a certificate of completion as recognition of their efforts and achievements.
