Mataram, Universitas Mataram (Wednesday, July 24, 2024) — The PKKMB (Introduction to Campus Life for New Students) event for the new cohort of 2024 through the SNBT pathway was held at the M. Yusuf Abubakar Auditorium at UNRAM, attended by 2,992 students. PKKMB serves as a special moment for students, acting as an initial orientation period that facilitates their adaptation to the campus environment, helps them meet their peers, and understand various aspects of academic and social life during their studies. An equally important piece of information for students to know is the existence of the Academic Support Unit (UPA). One of the UPAs introduced during this event was the Language Support Unit of the University of Mataram.
The orientation regarding the Language Support Unit (UPA) of the University of Mataram was conducted by the Head of UPA Bahasa, Mrs. Boniesta Zulandha Melani, M.A., Ph.D. (referred to as Mrs. Boniesta). The orientation material covered the functions and roles of UPA Bahasa, its essence in supporting UNRAM’s vision, as well as various courses and tests offered by UPA Bahasa UNRAM for the academic community and the general public. New students were also introduced to the sireg system and the UMEPT (University of Mataram English Proficiency Test). As is known, language proficiency is an essential competency that can enhance an individual’s portfolio. Through this introduction, it is hoped that new students at UNRAM will realize that UPA Bahasa UNRAM offers not only English language programs but also other programs such as BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers), Arabic, Mandarin, and Korean.
Adding to the excitement of the orientation was the distribution of door prizes. The Language Support Unit of the University of Mataram provided special souvenirs for students who actively participated in the Q&A session. It was evident that the new students remained enthusiastic despite having participated in various activities, and their interest in the introduction to UPA Bahasa UNRAM was very positive. It is hoped that this enthusiasm and spirit will continue to flourish as they embark on their new journey in higher education.
